Steve Jobs dead at 56

Steve Jobs, CEO and founder of Apple Inc. died Wednesday, October 5, 2011 from pancreatic cancer. Jobs is remembered as the ambitious pioneer behind personal computing and most recognizably for his strong focus on design-based functionality that recent Apple products emphasize. Jobs' declining health had long been a concern in recent years, as the aging Apple founder started to differentiate himself from the company's operations.

With increasing pressure to remain competitive against rivals like Google and Microsoft, much remains to be seen on how Apple will continue to evolve and stay fresh with time. Tim Cook replaced Steve Jobs just two weeks earlier as managing CEO.
