The Artist Formerly Known as Prince "Rogers Nelson" Dies at 57

Popular musician Prince (or the artist formerly known as Prince) died at the age of 57 in his Paisley Park, Minnesota home on Thursday, April 21, 2016. Prince, whose real name is Rogers Nelson, pioneered genre combining music with rock, funk and jazz and sold over 100 million records during his successful career.  He was born in 1958 and shot to fame for his best known hits including Let's Go Crazy and When Doves Cry.

Despite rumours surrounding his sexual orientation, Prince has maintained a gender fluid sexuality that positioned him as both a music visionary, as well as a branding icon. Prince had rebranded himself numerous times, at one point changing his name to a symbol that mixed the male and female icons and blended in the Egyptian ankh representing good health.
